A little more about me and how I do things:
I have observed that having a good birthing experience can help set a good platform for bonding with baby. Bonding with your baby sets the stage for a lifetime of deep and meaningful connection and relationship. When infants and children experience that connection with their parent or caregiver, they feel accepted and loved which enables them to embrace themselves and their place in this world. Supporting a mom and dad during labour is of utmost value, it has been shown to reduce Caesarean Section rates. Birth is a joyous and sacred moment, and it is a privilege for me to provide education, care and support to women and their partners/husbands.
I am a certified midwife qualified to provide holistic care during pre-conception, throughout pregnancy, during birth, and in the postpartum phase. My passion is providing women with a natural birthing experience while ensuring the safety of both baby and mom. I work with mom and dad within their birth plan to maximise this incredibly joyous and meaningful moment! I've completed the Sensitive Midwifery course which incorporates the latest birthing research with emphasis on birthing the natural way.
I am a registered/professional nurse (RN) and completed my Bachelor of Nursing Science (BCur) in 2001. I've worked in many hospital departments including Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Neonatal ICU, Cardiothoracic Unit, and other wards and hospital departments, as well as a Clinical Training Specialist training other nurses in various departments.
Supporting women during labour is an incredible responsibility and honor and a huge passion for me. I therefore completed my WOMBS (Women Offering Mothers Birth Support) certification as a qualified doula and have had the privilege of supporting many women through the birth of their little one.
While breastfeeding comes easily to some moms and babies, many others need extra help. There’s a lot you can do to prevent problems developing and get breastfeeding off to a good start . Along with years of experience helping moms with latching and breastfeeding, I have completed the South African Certified Lactation Course (SACLC), which is an internationally recognized lactation qualification through Wits University, and I bring the wealth of knowledge, evidence and experience from these into providing consultations and birth plans that assist moms in achieving and enjoying the best possible breastfeeding experience.
I've spent many years working in different Neonatal and Adult Intensive Care Units and gained invaluable experience from each. I studied a specialized ICU course from 2006-2007 and working in different ICU's exposed me to many emergency situations. I provide care-giver training to equip care-givers to handle many emergency scenarios.
Birth preparation is a huge passion for me as it helps prepare & equip both mom & dad for the amazing journey & adventure ahead. Over many years & through many different experiences, my antenatal course has been updated & refined to include the latest research, & aims to provide thorough & holistic information & personal experiences that cover the full spectrum of antenatal preparation. My husband also takes the fathers for an evening session focused on their role which includes informative & invaluable information.
7 week full antenatal course during pregnancy that covers topics such as breastfeeding, body changes, labour, baby care and more.
Birth support / Doula services at home and in the hospital provides the mom and dad with in-person guidance and support throughout labour and birth. Online support also provided if necessary.
Lactation consultations that assist mom with any breastfeeding or latching related issues; as well as prenatal breastfeeding consultations and plans. As a qualified South African Certified Lactation specialist, I also assist with complex breastfeeding issues. I also assist mom's who would like to adopt, to induce lactation and breastfeed their baby.
Post birth can be a daunting time so I provide latching, breastfeeding and other postnatal support which includes home visits where necessary. I also provide baby weighing to monitor the growth of your little one.
I provide training to care givers which includes babycare, resuscitation, and what to do in an emergency.
"Lisa is the most amazing doula and lactation consultant. I would highly recommend working with her. Her calm & soft nature was so nurturing during birth and post birth. Her post partum visits make you feel reassured and encouraged. We were able to contact Lisa with every concern before and after birth and she always had the answers. Lisa is very experienced and knowledgeable so no quetion is to much for her. She gave me the best start to my breastfeeding journey that allowed me to breastfeed for more than 24 months. Lisa made my birth, post birth and breast feeding journey extremely special & I will always be so grateful for the effort she put in to make my journey so special. "
"Expectant families: If you are looking for antenatal, birth and postnatal support then I would highly highly recommend Lisa Krummeck’s services to you! We journeyed with her through my pregnancy and navigating what to expect, and she was exactly what made us feel empowered to manage this new life stage! Due to Covid, the sessions were virtual, but that did not hamper the quality of the service. She is such a warm, encouraging and deeply knowledgeable support that would benefit anyone along this journey. It was the difference maker for us and continues to be as we navigate post partum and breastfeeding. Please do check her out!!!"
"My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the antenatal classes. We started with almost zero knowledge of pregnancy and birth - only excitement - and finished in awe at how incredibly designed the body is to grow and birth a baby. Lisa’s input, gentle nature and passion for birthing was contagious and increased our excitement and expectation for our little guy. I would, and have, recommended Lisa’s course; thorough, fun, informative and empowering!"
"Doing antenatal classes was definitely the best thing we did before our little girl was born. Lisa is so passionate and knowledgeable about all aspects of birth and baby care. We went away from each session so encouraged and informed. There was so much we didn't know and quite a few misconceptions that we had. Lisa is gentle, approachable and so gracious. She took such a personal interest in each couple in the class and included each partner so beautifully in the process. She also did a follow up home visit with us after baby had arrived which we loved and definitely needed! I absolutely recommend antenatal classes and allowing Lisa to walk alongside you on your journey towards parenthood."
"Lisa is an incredibly warm, genuine and skilled woman who was a massive help to myself and my husband in both pre and postnatal care. We felt that Lisa's antenatal classes were so helpful in informing us in all the necessary steps leading up to becoming parents. We felt so blessed to be apart of the classes! It was so lovely to learn together with other parents to be. Lisa is always so willing to answer any questions and really has continued to feel like a safe place to me regarding breastfeeding, postnatal care and really anything to do with our baby. We love Lisa and would highly recommend her services."
"Lisa’s involvement in my journey has been invaluable!
From pregnancy advice to amazing interactive antenatal classes to all-out birthing support and postnatal help & advice. I can highly recommend Lisa Krummeck’s services to any expectant parents. Lisa comes with a wealth of knowledge & experience. She is caring, loving, encouraging and passionate about what she does. Lisa was my doula for my first baby and she was the most incredible support to my husband and I - what a beautiful experience. She couldn’t doula for my second baby due to COVID, but even so, the encouragement, love & support she gave helped us tremendously. I wish Lisa all the best in this wonderful venture and know that those she journey’s with will be so blessed by her."
"I had antenatal classes with Lisa when I was pregnant with my first, now aged 5. Her advice was excellent, delivered with compassion, practical and encouraging. The postnatal help I received from her was also amazing. Thanks to her I was able to successfully breastfeed my baby, who was having trouble latching, and as I result I have been able to breastfeed all my children with no further problems. I wish her well in this venture and I know she'll do brilliantly. I'd highly recommend her."
"Lisa isn't just good at what she does, she has a passion for what she does. I was set on having a cesarean due to my own fears around giving birth, but just through attending her class, I felt at ease at the idea of giving natural birth and felt blessed to have been able to do so. Lisa, thank you and I know you will do so well."
